Celebrating Memorial Day Weekend
Its hard to believe that were now more than halfway through the month of March. Weve already celebrated Mothers Day weeks ago and before you know it, it will be mid-June and well be celebrating Fathers Day. But we wouldnt want to miss the nice long weekend in between those holidays ” Memorial Day weekend. Time to usher in the sun and start planning ways to enjoy the warmest season of the year.
For many of us well spend the weekend trying to get outdoors as much as possible (providing the weather cooperates of course). Maybe well get to go boating or fishing on a lake or ocean. Or maybe get out and take a nice hike in a nearby State Park. Some will make the most of the long weekend by going away for a road trip to the ocean and spend the weekend enjoying the beach.
There are many people that have decided to stay around home for the long weekend so they can just hang out at home and relax. Sometimes after running around all of the time during the week its nice to have nowhere to go - to just kickback and relax. And the best part of staying local is the money thats saved on hotels and gas ” plus there arent any traffic headaches to deal with either.
For simple fun at home its a great time to break out the classic backyard family games like badminton, volleyball, horseshoes, and water pistols. If youre lucky enough to have a swimming pool, thats even better. Or you can just pump up those great new inflatable pools, hop in and enjoy as much fresh air as you can. Seriously, after running around all week its really nice to keep it as simple as possible.
Of course you cant have Memorial Day without firing up the barbecue. It can be anything from the classic grilled cheeseburgers and chili hotdogs with some fresh ears of corn-on-the-cob on the side. Or you can cook up some teriyaki tuna steaks or some grilled juicy steaks. Dont forget the fresh mouth-watering watermelon. The great part of cooking out on the grill is that theres so much less mess to clean up in the kitchen.
It will all be more enjoyable if you line up your supplies before the weekend arrives. If you do your shopping early youll avoid the crowds or having to run out for things when you should be home enjoying a much-deserved weekend of relaxation. And dont forget to check to make sure youve got plenty of fuel in your barbecue.
